miniature house snowglobe ornaments

<<< psst! you can see a full list of my diy projects here! >>>

time : minutes
difficulty : ★ ★   ☆
hazards : messy, messy buffalo snow
would i do it again? : yes!

after making the baby's ultrasound snowglobe ornaments, i got to thinking: i have three more empty ornaments to do with as i please. why not also celebrate our first house?

...and how nostalgic would it be to have an ornament for each of the houses you've lived in? it would also make a thoughtful housewarming gift if you know anyone celebrating their first christmas in a new home.

here's what you need:

first, i resized a straight-on shot of our house to about three inches wide. i used photoshop, but you should be able to resize in any basic word processing program. i printed two copies of the picture on plain typing paper. cardstock is too thick for our purposes.

i folded the house pictures back-to-back so they approximately overlapped:

i used a glass cup for a template and traced a half-circle around our house.

i cut out the half-circle scene and glued the two images back-to-back. i used clear packing tape as a Poor Man's Laminating Method: sticky sides towards each other, then trim the excess.

i filled my ornament about a quarter-full with buffalo snow.

...then i rolled the laminated picture and stuffed it in the ornament's opening:

i let it unfurl and...

all that's left to do is add the ribbon and hang on our tree!

what do you think? easy enough, right?
