i volunteered to be a room parent this month at lil' archer's preschool...which means i get to help plan the halloween party!

i was told to keep it simple -- the kids are only two and three years old after all -- and i tried as hard as i possibly could to not overdo it. with so many great ideas on pinterest, it was really hard not to go overboard.

i've been adding little touches of halloween around our house and this arrangement was bugging me. it seemed...lacking. haphazard.

normally, it's just the giraffes and the orchid. 

so...i decided to ghost-ify our giraffes!

how to patch a plaster hole

when we replaced our inefficient old doorbell with a fancy-shmancy wireless unit, we were left with a gaping hole in the wall.

unfortunately, it sat this way for months.

SO. once i found out how easy it is to stain a door darker, my focus immediately turned to our entry area.

new use for an old doorstop

a-HA! i knew i'd find a purpose for this old doorstop on our coat closet door.

the door opens into our kitchen.

the doorstop has no wall to stop into.

its main purpose in life became catching on my drapier shirts as i walked by and yanking me back. 

hardy-har-har, doorstop.

but NOW...

lil' archer's bed: it's done, it's done, it's DONE!

we LOVE it!!

the bed was based on ana white's plans for a camp loft bed with stair, but slightly modified to make it a bit shorter since we only have 8' ceilings and there's a ceiling fan in the room.

lil' archer's bed: it's coming together...

all the pieces for our little guy's new big-boy bed have now been stained...and are in lil' archer's room, ready for assembly!

september in review

it seems like i was shopping for school supplies just yesterday...and now it's october! before we delve into preparations for a very spooooky halloween, let's recap what happened here at {crab+fish} in september!

DIY projects included: scrap-buster playtime beanbags, a thrifty lightbox, many sidewalk chalk villages, and a pint-sized construction site!
