i finally felt up to tackling these yesterday:

* building a bed *

construction is under way on our bed!

fish finally had some free time this weekend so we went to home depot and bought the rest of the lumber needed to make our bed.

while going through old photos, i found a picture of my mom in her younger days...standing in the scoop of an excavator.

   i'm not sure what the story is behind that.

a gold frame makeover

i ordered some washi tape from {crafty japan} on etsy a couple of weeks ago and i've been anxiously awaiting its arrival so i could do a picture frame makeover.

these guys started as plain ol' gold metal frames.

my husband is a genius.

fish went downstairs to check on the laundry sink and found it was AGAIN overflowing!

so much for thinking i'd fixed my very first house problem.

pooh.

i hung a plastic shoe organizer inside our hallway closet door to store all of our household medicine and first aid supplies. i especially like having the clear pockets so it's easy to see what's inside each section.

we went to home depot today and bought the lumber for ana white's hailey platform bed that fish plans on building.

it eventually needed three coats of primer and two coats of paint to cover up all that purple.

i'm not done unpacking.

   nowhere close to having everything organized.

      there's still tons of nastiness that needs to be cleaned.

...but, i have to tell you...

painting this moose gold gave me such satisfaction.

like i actually DID something.

impromptu bookshelf

while unpacking, i came across my collection of books by michael crichton, my most *favorite* author EVER. i displayed the books i love most (( and you can really tell on some of them! )) on the glass block windowsill in our staircase.

how does this happen??!

the previous homeowners completely gutted the kitchen when they remodeled so i know for a fact the grime inside the oven can't be more than five years old. how does it get to this stage in less than five years???

slowly but surely getting things put away

three things i am looking forward to:
1. having internet
       still two more days of blogging from my phone...
2. buying a car
3. having everything put away so i can start decorating and be creative

for now, here are some before and after pics of one of those nasty bathroom cabinets.

i was gagging the whole time i was cleaning it.

it was a busy weekend for us - after spending a few days painting and insulating, we finally moved INTO the house!

HOORAY!

there wasn't much time for cleaning before moving in so that has kept me extremely occupied. i open drawers, expecting they'll need a cursory clorox wipedown...

 ...and instead find THIS nastiness...

here's a preview of lil' archer's room! i wanted a safe place for him to play while we attacked the rest of the house so i made sure to have it finished before we moved in this past saturday. i'll post more detail later!

update from the trenches

the closing went remarkably well yesterday! 

i was a little scared when the attorney plonked down a sheaf of papers a few inches thick and said she was going to walk us through them, page by page.
   ...and we would have to sign or initial each one.

whoa.

but, all in all, it "only" took an hour and a half.

   ...and OF COURSE we immediately went to the house 

to take this lovely picture for y'all.

and that's our front door and that's our mailbox and that's our porch.......!

welp.

we're closing tomorrow!

fish is already fast asleep...

...dreaming about baseball, i'm sure.

how can he completely remove himself from the excitement of our big day tomorrow, while i'm sitting (laying) here, a bundle of nerves?
   making mental checklists.
   imagining how the day is going to go.

stress level: midnight

we had our final walkthrough today. it was sweet seeing lil' archer run through the house for the first time and watching him explore the backyard - a completely new concept to him. i'm already imagining our lives one year, two years, five years from now...in this house.
   BBQs in the summer.
   snowmen in the winter.
   bringing our first dog home.
   lil' archer learning to ride a bike in the driveway.
   family meals.
   family game nights.
   sounds of little feet running up and down the stairs.

   welcome to part 2 of my breakdown. 

SO.

the sunroom.

it's a {no-brainer} for me...technically. i know i want the room to be the most sublime shade of pinky-peach i can find.

i thought i had a sure design vision for our house. if there were spaces i hadn't quite worked out, i figured they'd come together.

but now, under the realization that we have essentially THREE days from the closing to prepare the house for moving in...

i'm cracking under the pressure.

i'm becoming wishy-washy.

i'm doubting myself.
