festive feather ornaments

<<< you can see a full list of my diy projects here! >>>

time : minutes
difficulty  ★ ☆ ☆ ☆
hazards : feather fluff floating feverywhere
would i do it again? : yes!

my heart skipped a beat when i saw these feather ball ornaments at west elm. they're so flouncy and happy-looking, aren't they?

i have to admit i almost bought them. ALMOST. but then i realized...it was just some sort of ball base, feathers, and ribbon! how hard could they be to replicate??

i raided K's craft supplies ((as I'm prone to do...)) and among the giant beads, pipe cleaners, and foam stickers, i found what i was looking for: a giant bag of white feathers!

i rounded up the rest of the necessities:

there's not much to it! i glued the ric rac on first:

...then i glued on all the feathers! i started at the bottom, working my way up. as i got the upper layers on, they covered the tops of the lower feathers.

obviously, mine didn't turn out all fancy and flouncy and orderly like west elm's version...but i kind of like my puffball ornament better!
because they were free?? who can say...

curious about the felt garland??

have any of you used feathers in your holiday decorating?
