time : minutes...hours
difficulty : ★ ★ ★  ☆
hazards : your head may explode with frustration
would i do it again? : NEVER. AGAIN.

warning: this post is full of emotional highs and lows...
**********

HIGH:
my festive pumpkin was inspired by country living magazine -- their instructions say to simply tape off the zig-zag patten and use acrylic paint to fill in...it's just that easy!
   i can do that...!

naked pumpkin:
i used washi tape because i didn't have any skinny painter's tape.
LOW...
unless you are some sort of mathematical genius that can keep track of angles and whatnot on a round and extremely bumpy surface -- i found this pattern infuriating to tape!

needless to say, the pumpkin ended up with a good side...

HIGH...
ooooh...

...and a wonky side.

LOW...

i applied a couple of layers of acrylic paint...
my good stuff, not craft paint.
HIGH!
i love painting.

...aaand then i peeled the tape off...

MAJOR EXTREME LOW.
ARGH.
country living magazine, you LIE.

not easy.

NOT EASY.

after investing so much effort and time already, i had to fix him somehow. i grabbed a black sharpie marker and went over the borders of the white stripes...

surprise HIGH!
...and i actually like it BETTER than the plain white chevron!
i went over the sharpie lines again after they dried to get the deep black color.

now...make sure to do multiple thin layers of your sealer. if you're thinking you've already spent enough time and effort on this dang pumpkin and you give it a nice, thick spraycoat...

...you might end up with this.

sigh. LOW.

HIGH:
luckily, that's the wonky side!

i'll just turn that disaster around to the back and...
to quote cher horowitz...this pumpkin is "a full-on Monet...From far away, it's okay, but up close, it's a big ol' mess."

please don't look too close.

here's hoping yours turns out much better than mine!
